Sex Between Minors

My brother is 17 years old and has a 16 year old girlfriend who recently became pregnant. They would like to keep the baby, because he has me to support him. But, the father of the girl said that if she does not have an abortion he will send my brother to jail. Is this possible, or do we have a chance against him?

They are both minors, so he has less risk than an adult. Unless the girl claims rape, he probably has nothing to seriously worry about. Congratulate them both for doing the right thing now, taking responsibility for their actions and their lives. If the father gets out of line, get an attorney to protect the kids. You should be able to find one sympathetic to the cause through the local churches, or through Lawyer Referral Service in your area.

Most DA's will not take action in a case such as this unless she claims that he used force. It is not up to father to put him is jail. Only the DA can prosecute. Pressure from the father may result in the DA taking action.
