Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

sexual offender...288a

I posted on 4/07/07 with the same subject line.I didn't go with any of the lawyers who replied to my post because I live in the bay area and they were in socal. But I did take the advice every poster gave me and hired a lawyer.I check out my lawyer I hired. He is a former DA and he has been practicing for 15yrs.I go back to court at the end of this month for sentencing. But my question is my lawyer seems like a nice guy and all but he doesn't make him available to me.I know he is busy with other cases. But one question I had for him that he never got back to me really irritated me.My question for him is.I recently got married because my (now) wife stayed with me through the who thing and has been my rock.My wife has kids how will the outcome of the case effect my relationship with them?I would never hurt them. What lead to my arrest was a depression and suicidal state of mind I was in.I just didn't care about anything anymore.I have got myself into therapy and I'm becoming a healthier happier person.Since my wifes kids will be big part of my future do you think my lawyer since he doesn't make himself available as much as I would like.Especially since I have this major question doing the best job he can for me?

An attorney is not a therapist per se, and it is ultimately up to you to decide if what he/she is doing in the courtroom appears to be in your very best legal interest. The question you pose to your attorney is more of a therapy type question, rather than legal in nature. If you feel that your attorney is not necessarily representing your best legal interests, then this would be an issue you must decide in determining if you need new legal counsel or not. You certainly have our empathy when it comes to your family relationship, and in our opinion, you and your family should be just fine during and after this unfortunate ordeal is resolved. You and your family appear to have a very strong bond and united front. We wish you the very best.
