Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

shoplifting ubran outffiters $18

I walked out of the store with a piece of underwear in my purse valued at $18. No police were contacted, I signed a paper that said I was not allowed to visit an Urban Outfitters for 3 years. What sort of fees should I be expect? If any at all....Will this go on my permenant record?

If no police involved, then there should be no prosecution and no record. If you end up being prosecuted, the case should be dismissed or in the worst case scenario end up as an infraction.

Expect a letter demanding several hundred dollars in costs, and even if you pay you still risk arrest and charges of shoplifting. It happens quite frequently. If that happens, it will definitely be on your record. Before agreeing to anything, you should consult with counsel and have them represent you in dealing with the company. Feel free to contact me if serious about doing so.
