sobriety checkpoints and freedm of speach
Besides pissing them off can the cops stop me from standing on the sidewalk holding a sign over my head warning people of a police checkpoint?

I would not stand near the checkpoint. The checkpoints are announced in advance; you could organize an internet email listserv, or you could pass out flyers in your local watering hole.
