If your employer has a reasonable basis to suspect you, it has the right to conduct a good faith investigation. You should be cooperative in an effort to prove your innocence. Employers do not need to prove you are guilty in order to fire you, especially if you are considered an "at-will" employee. However, if they cannot prove you are guilty, they should not tell anyone you did something dishonest because you can sue them for defamation.
