Legal Question in DUI Law in California

old dui

i have a dui from about 2003. at the time my lawyer told me i either had to take the dui course or wait 3 years. i didnt read the whole case just what he told me to look at. later i found out i had to take the course. my question is there any way i can get a lawyer to try to get this changed?. i live in santa maria california

Unfortunately, it sounds like it's too late now to do anything differently. It also sounds like you entered a plea and at that time, the judge likely asked you if you understood the terms of your sentence. It is very likely you answered, 'yes.' Since you had to take a class, you were probably given some sort of probation. If you have not completed the terms of your probation by the specified date, you may now have separate charges pending against you for a probation violation.

I would contact your previous attorney and have him look into this for you.

No. Even if you filed a motion asking the court to do so, it is extremely unlikely they would. Take the course; that's what everybody has to do.
