Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

Name attached to a project

Ok, so a friend has come to me with a

reality tv show idea. She has said that if

I get this project going then I will ''have

my name on this project.'' My question

is how do I make sure my name is

attached to this legally? Thank you

Re: Name attached to a project

You can ensure that you are "attached" to the project by having a written contract specifying the terms under which your attachment will operate.

Typically, this means you either (a) purchase an option on the rights to the project, or (b) enter into a 'shopping' agreement which guarantees you credit and employment on the show (or a buy-out) if you're able to successfully set-up the project within the specified time period (usually 6-12 months).

Such agreements vary widely in their terms, so you'll want to consult an attorney who knows what he/she's doing to advise you and get the paperwork right.

I can help.
