Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

I am a musician trying to transition from my given name to a stage name. I already operate under my chosen stage name, but I want to begin transitioning over fully (i.e, getting checks payable to the stage name) Is there a way to transition without legally changing my name?

I recommend a legal name change. There are just a few forms to file with the court. Once you get the order you can send it to Social Security, Dept. of Motor Vehicles, your bank and get everything changed. While you might be able endorse checks over to your current name and deposit them, if you are in the public spotlight, you don't want your given name to be used and to show up on the internet.
