Legal Question in Family Law in California

A 16 year-old wants to live with me because she doesn't have a place to live. Her mom died and her dad is in jail. She has two brothers but they are gang members. she was in one of those homes where they have a lot of children but she didn't like it. she run away from there and went to live with her sister but here sister doesn't her own place. She ask for our help and we want to help her by letting her stay at the house and put her to school but i am afraid i'll get in trouble or lose her. what can i do ?

If you want to be her guardian/parent then you must file papers in the court to be her guardian. Otherwise she would be a ward of the state in foster care in this situation.
