Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child support for LD child

1. When does child support end? When the child turns 18 or when they complete high school?

2. Are there any laws/rulings about continuing child support for a learning disabled child past the age of 18?

Thank you.

In a general sense, child support ends at age 18, and is extended if at age 18 the child is still residing with a parent while attending high school. The extension ends at age 19 or completion of the 12th grade. In a general sense, Family Code section 3910 states "The father and mother have an equal responsibility to maintain, to the extent of their ability, a child of whatever age who is incapacitated from earning a living and without sufficient means."

For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
