Legal Question in Family Law in California

Is this considered child abuse?

I have a friend in her early teens. She and her dad had an argument which ended up with both of them hitting each other. This is the first time it has happened. However, my friend was really upset and cried a lot afterwards. She also had a couple bruises. She isn't very strong and can't have hurt her father physically. What can she do about this?

Re: Is this considered child abuse?

The father and daughter need to partcipate in counseling to work out this problem. If she reports this to a teacher or someother person, CPS will remove her from the home and place her in foster care. Father will then have to take parenting classes and anger management classes. If he successfully completes this program she will be returned home. Taking the course of action referred to by Ms Norwich would be likely to result in the family being torn apart.
