Legal Question in Family Law in California

crooked lawyer

I hired an LA attorney to file for full child custody in Fresno county in Jan 05.The reason I did this is because I was having trouble finding a competent lawyer to take my case in Fresno .I had 70% custody of my 2 kids and my ex had 30.soon as I filed for child support a year later he hired an attorney .I had filed a move away .My attorney at the time assured I would get it .well I didnt ,They gave him 70 % custody. To this day I dont know why.I fired the attorney.

I give the LA attorney $20000 upfront (I know .stupid of me).A child support issue came up .He flew himself and an attorney friend to fresno at my expense for this simple hearing .when I confronted him about it he said sorry but still charged me .He never filed any paper work related child custody which was the main reason why I hired him.I fired him in June 05.He spent $15000 of my money .His accountant was unable to give me a detailed description of what the money was spent on.

Im an RN ,good character .I have no criminal back ground 1)I dont understand why my ex got custody 2)how do I make this attorney accountable I have no money left!

3)I give the ex childsupport ,he is an electrician, works for cash on the side.yet claims money from mehow do i fight this

Re: crooked lawyer

We are truly and very sorry to hear about your unfortunate set of legal circumstances. However, an attorney cannot guarantee the outcome of any lawsuit or proceeding unfortunately. However, you may want to retain an affordable attorney to review your attorney-client agreement between you and the attorney you fired to see what type of legal standing you have if any. Thereafter, if you do have actionable rights, you can file for a mandatory, binding arbitration hearing against the attorney at issue regarding your fee dispute.
