Legal Question in Family Law in California

Divorced - who gets what

After less than one year of marriage, I came home to find my wife took most of everything. I understand she is entitled to things she owned prior to our marriage, but she and her dad feel they're entitled to everything, to include alimony, re-education, and $20K for reimbursement of the wedding, bachelor party gift, other gifts, and other items. Also, I did have some debit during the marrige that the exwife supposedly paid off for me, but it appears she borrowed the money from her dad. I asked nothing from him, no verbal or written contract, nor would I have any records of what was paid for my debt.

It is my understanding she cant get alimony, and he cant get money back for gifts nor paying for the wedding.

Should I be worried? They are asking for some wine glasses back (given as a wedding gift) but I cannot find them, and they are threatening court.

Re: Divorced - who gets what

She cannot get reimbursement for gifts and wedding costs. She might be able to get reimbursement for paying off your debts, depending on more facts. Spousal support for half of the length of the marriage in normal but the amount depends on the income of each of your. Wedding gifts are community property and should be divided equally. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
