Legal Question in Family Law in California

I need to find out if there is a way to apeal a restraining order. My friend is going trough a divorce. His wife put a temperary rstraining order on him and then she broke it by coming to his appartment. He called a policeman over to his place, and the officer took the statement while she was still there throwing and braking stuff. Later at the courthouse, she was approved the perminit restraining order. What advise can you give me to help my friend?
