Legal Question in Family Law in California

Can Not Find Deadbeat Dad

I filed with the DA's office here in Nevada to locate missing dad for back child support. It is not a court order, but he agreed to pay. My son was born in 1990, and he's paid faithfully until the ending of 1998. The payments just stop coming with no explanation.DA's office says they can't help me unless I have his SS#, which I don't, and don't know how I would get it. I have his parent's address and ph.#,but they won't take that into consideration. Can someone please help.

Good afternoon:

While I can't vouch for this service, here is a link to a typical online investigation site:

If you can get a social security number and a locate, your D.A. should be able to initiate proceedings.

Re: Can Not Find Deadbeat Dad

You will probably need a private attorney. He could file an action for child support and serve by publication. He could then hire and investigator to find the father, depose the parents and subpena records of the former employer to obtain SS# and current address. If all else fails he can publish to establish the judgment and then when he is found you will have a large past support obligation. If child was conceived in Nevada or father lived in Nevada you can proceed in Nevada, otherwise you will need to go to Father's home state. Since there is no court order, you have no enforceable child support until an order is established. It may take some time and money but you are losing out on hundreds of dollars per month. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
