Legal Question in Family Law in California

Gave up custody, now want visitation.

I gave up legal and physical custody of my daughter in 10/00. I wanted no visitation. Can I get visitation now? My daughter does not want to see me or have anything to do with me. She is 15 years old. I pay no support.

The answer is probably yes, but you have some bridge building to do. You will probably need to go into counseling together with her. I would suggest that you seek a counselor yourself to talk about the reason that you stopped seeing your daughter, before filing the motion. When he says that you are ready, then file your motion. Don't expect to me to move right is with a right to joint custody and substantial time sharing. Expect to see her a few times in counseling first and then for short periods of time and building. Your counselor can help you see what you have done to your daughter and give you suggestions on how to approach her and what to expect. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
