Legal Question in Family Law in California

What should I do?

My ex has done nothing but give me problems. I've been good enough to take my daughter to his house every friday. On Christmas he called and was just being a jerk and calling names. I checked my cell the next day, there were about 80 text messages, name calling and childish stuff, including ''Let the games begin.'' I don't play games, so I filed for custody. I have a friend who is going to have her lawyer serve the papers 48 hours before the court date. I want to know what I should do. I haven't been staying home alone, someone is always here with me, because I don't know what my ex is capable of. I know he and his ex had a pretty volatile relationship. I also know when he doesn't get his way, he kind of loses it. So, any advice would be appreciated. If you know of someone in the area, a public defender or someone who does pro bono work, I would appreciate it. If I have to, I'll do this on my own, but I know having someone standing beside me would help a lot. Thank You for your time.

Re: What should I do?

I am not sure of some important facts in your situation?

First is this person your ex-spouse?, Is this person the parent of the child? Are there any custody or visitation orders currently in place? Has there ever been any domestic violence?
