hi,
my husband and I each have a house, when we got married we didn't do a pre-nup. if one of us die, can his family claim the house he bought before we married? or vice-verse?

It would depend on facts that you did not present. When were the houses acquired, how is title held, was there a post-nup, is there a will or a trust, etc.?
