Legal Question in Family Law in California

I've been married over 30 years and am a displaced worker. I want to file for a divorce, but I'm scared due to my job situation. Am I entitled to alimony and if so, do you know for approximately how long? My husband is working full time and also receives a small monthly pension, but he tells me if I file for a divorce, I won't be entitled to anything. I know alimony is discretionary by the Court, but will I be denied receiving any support? I also have 1 child under the age of 18.

You are likely entitled to spousal and child support immediately upon the filing of a petition for dissolution of marriage, in along term marriage such as yours.
