Legal Question in Family Law in California

parental permission

Im a father of a 8 yr old boy who is going on vacation with his grandparents (my parents). Im not going with him. Hes going from California to Hawaii. He does not have an ID. De does however have a U.S. birth certificate. What other documents might he or my parents need? For example, like a affidavit, parental permission and medical consent?

His medical insurance card, maybe? Last I heard Hawaii was one of the 50 US States, same as Arizona, no passport, etc. required.
