Legal Question in Family Law in California

Do I have to pay the bill

I am a foreigner working in the US.

My mother come to see me and she died in an accident.

Since she is in temporary visiting visa and she do not have any insurance coverage in the US.

Now, the ambulance company is sending me bill for several thousand. But my mom do not have any assets left even in my own country.

Since I suppose to support her at the time she is here by law. Do I have to pay the bill?

Re: Do I have to pay the bill

Unless there is a contractual relationship between you and the ambulance company, you have no legal duty to pay your mother's bill. How did the accident occur? You may have a wrongful death action, if there is a third party at fault. Or if there was an automobile accident then there may be medical payments available under the auto insurance policy. While you may not be legally obligated, you may find some insurance that could pay the bill and save you the headache of dealing with the ambulance company. e-mail me with the details of the accident and I may be able to give you some ideas of how to proceed.
