If I live in California, do I have to publish a petition in the state in which,I live in or can it be in the state my husband lives in?

Not sure I understand. If you file a petition for dissolution you or your husband must have lived in California for 6 months and the county you are filing for three months. You would 'publish' in cases where you don't know where your husband lives. I think you mean just filing a dissolution petition. File in California if you meet the residency requirements.
