Legal Question in Family Law in California

Questions about emancipation.

I am helping a 16 year old boy find out information about legal emancipation. He can support himself financially. Fist question, must he be presently living away from home, and if so for how long? Second question, if one of his reasons for attempting emancipation is because of abuse in his home, would the court take actions against his abusers or press some sort of charges?

He needs to file a Petition to be declared an emancipated minor. Being self supporting is one of the primary criteria. If there was abuse in the household with his parents, it should be reported to child protective services!

Good luck to you!
