Married 12 years, I am in poor health, past year, I left my job last October to take care of his dying mother for a few months at her home. When I got back the place I worked closed their doors. I may not be able to work again because I have fibromyalgia. Can I get alimony plus have him keep me covered under his medical in the divorce. My husband is in the military reserves,he has been gone for over a year state side, yesterday he admitted being involved with another woman and wants a divorce. We have no children and own a house. What can I get to protect myself as I am 51 yrs old.

Under California law, your marriage is a long term marriage, and you have specific support rights based upon your circumstances. You may be a candidate for spousal support until death or remarriage. If the house was acquired during the marriage, it is presumed to be community property.

I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!

If you haven't been served with a Summons and Petition yet, I would advise you to file and have him served soon.
