Legal Question in Family Law in California

i separate with my wife since sept of 2009. case to go to trial next month. do i use mortgage balance @ time of separation or do i use the current mortgage since i have been paying the mortgage out of my separate funds

The rule of thumb is to evaluate property at or about the time of trial.
