Legal Question in Family Law in California

stopping child support from coming out of payroll checks

I have been paying child support for my daughter and now she is 18 years old. It was not court ordered to take the payments out of my check. It was my choice to do it so my attorney set it up. Is there any way to stop it on my own? It continues to come out of my check. I talked to payroll and they said I have to have a letter from the attorney. I just can't afford another bill from my attorney. I am still paying for my divorce of five years ago.

It is difficult if not impossible to give you an opinion without first reviewing your underlying documents, but it sounds like you need an amended wage assignment setting support to ZERO because your child is now 18. This is a relative simple process - check with the Family Law Facilitators Office for some free assisstance.
