Legal Question in Family Law in California

UIFSA Help!

California issued a default child support judgement against me in 1987. I reside in WA. and my ex-spouse resides in Texas. Neither of us has lived in CA for almost 20 years. The child is over 18 years old. I pay $500 per month through the state of WA to avoid a lien on everything I own which isn't much. CA in the past denied me a paternity test. Has refused to admit that my ex-wife hasn't lived there in years. CA has just now put in a request for employment verification with my employer and wants to know how much I make.

Why? When I pay the amount requested for a child that may or may not be mine. We were divorced before he was born.

It is my understanding that they do not have either subject matter nor personal jurisdication over this case.

Help! I am my family's only source of income and cannot afford any more.

Thanks!!

Re: UIFSA Help!

Probably the easiest route is to talk to a child support attorney in the county in California where the child support judgment is located. You may be able to attack the judgment and have it set aside. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
