Legal Question in Family Law in California

ex wife

My husband and I are newly married and his ex wife is now wanting more child support. He pays 1200 a month plus half of all child care expenses. He also pays for their health insurance. He recently joined a company and makes more money but they have shared custody, 50/50.

I've always been under the impression that if they share 50/50 custody then everything is split down the middle and that neither pay child support. What is your take on this?

Re: ex wife

No, that's not the way it works. If your husband earns $100K per month, for example, and the ex-wife earns $50K per month, your husband will be paying child support to the ex-wife, even if they share 50/50.

There are other ways to fight against paying more child support. You should consult with an attorney if the ex-wife files a request for modification of child support.
