Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

automobile recovery

I bought a vehicle and loaned it to my ex girlfriend. She took title with my name from my house and refuses to return my vehicle. Now she claims that I gave her this vehicle as a gift. I did not. What can I do to recover my vehicle?

Re: automobile recovery

Call the police and report it stolen! Bottom line, isn't that what happened? If she produces the title with a forged signature from you transferring it to her, you make the allegation and let the authorities sort it out. Unless she also made up a bill of sale bearing your signature, or some other documentation, your story will be given due regard. . . unless, of course, you DID give it to her, and are now making these claims to recover the gift after the relationship went sour!

Your facts are not so unusual as you might think. A lot of cars end up being taken by a former girlfriend/boyfriend under a claim of ownership, and the poor cops caught in the middle are often called on to mediate this type of thing.

I wish you luck!
