Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Ca small claims

* I have been under Dr's care/supervision since Feb 2008 to present, at times in Quarantine.

* Also on State Disability during this period, and not released till March 2009.

* I am the defendant in a Small Claims matter - Commercial Lease, Plaintiff was the Landlord, I was the lessee.

* I have been unable to attend court hearings, however, informed the court in writing, of my illness, providing medical excuses.

* At times I have been homeless, which in obtaining mail has been a nightmare.

* I found out last week a judgment was entered without prejudice, and filed another motion to vacate. Waiting to hear from courts if I am able to have my side of the story told.

* Levy is in effect, I filed an Exemption. Plaintiff filed Opposition.

* Plaintiff has many errors in initial order, which would have resulted in a dismissal.

* I do not owe the Plaintiff anything.

What are my options at this point?

Dear Small Claims Defendant:

The answer to your question would be based at least in part on the laws of California in which we are neither licensed nor particularly knowledgeable (while general propositions may be similar, statutes and case decisions vary from state to state). This would need to be dealt with by a local attorney as it is in a local court with local laws. Good luck to you.
