Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Civil Assessment Notice

I received a civil assessment notice from

the superior court of California, county of

Los Angeles.

The notice says:

''As a result of your failure to appear on

Februay 27th, 2007 a civil assessment

fee was added to your bail, pursuant to

penal code section 1214.1.''

The bail amount due at the top of the

notice says ''$661.00''

This is the first time I have head anything

about this.

I don't know what this in in regards to,

and I don't know where to go to find

answers.

Apparently, I now have 10 days to

appear in court. I don't know where or

when to appear, or how to even

schedule or re-schedule a court

appointment, let alone ask what this case

is about.

Any insight would be helpful.

Re: Civil Assessment Notice

The notice is referring to a penalty added when a person fails to appear for court or fails to pay fine. You should immediately contact the court and set the matter for a hearing or pay the amount. If you ignore this it may well become a warrant for your arrest or the revocation of your driver's license.
