Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Work Relocation Package

I was paid a check of $3000 for relocation in which I did the relocation to work at the job. However, after one week, I quit my job because the company was secretly hiring someone else to take the job the company had originally offered me. I did not sign any payback paperwork. Can they sue me for the money back?

Re: Work Relocation Package

That depends upon what the agreement was. If it merely was that they would pay you to take a job at a different location and you did so intending to remain at the job, tehy would not apper to have a case. If the agreement was that you would work at the new site for a certain number of months, you might have problems because you would need to show they acted illegally as to hiring the other employee, and that will be difficult to do. If they have not done anything within a few weeks of your leaving, they probably will never do anything.

If you have anything in writing, you can send it to me and I will review it at no charge and tell you what my opinion is.
