how do i protect myself from further physical abuse? what will stop my spouse...legally?

Next time you are physically abused, call 911 and press charges.

You have not provided enough information so I can advise you. Under VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) batered spouse of an abuser husband is eligible for certain benefits. on the other hand, if your husband is getting papers through you..that process can be stopped as well.
