will receiving welfare for my kids affect me in anyway to becoming a US resident?

It depends if you are the immigrant or the petitioner. However, it could very well affect the petition and make the immigrant inadmissible because they will become a public charge.

Usually, no, it should not. It aso depends on the types of welfare benefits you apply for your kids. There are exceptions to the "public charge" requirement.
