Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Liability Insurance

I purchased my car in July, 1999. The car dealer took care of my insurance during the transaction. On February 29, 2000 I was rear ended and my car was totaled. I found out then that although my insurance covered comprehensive and collission, it did not include liability (which California Law requires). No I am left with medical bills and the balance of my car loan that the Insurance company won't pay for. I have been advised that if I sue, the state will find out I did not have liability insurance and suspend my license for a year and require me to obtain an SR14. However, since I have to report the accident anyway, I still may be faced with the same delima. Please advise on what options I have.

Re: Liability Insurance

You might have a malpractice action against the dealer

broker. You are right that DMV will find out anyway,

so you might as well assert your rights.
