protecting an idea

I have an idea for a TV show and would like to present it to a network, but how do I protect the idea from the network potentially stealing my idea and not giving me any credit?

The networks are just as worried about being accused of stealing ideas as you are about having them stolen. For this and other reasons you will get nowhere unless you submit your pitch via an established Hollywood agent. Start by writing the pilot episode teleplay and registering it with the WGA.

Without the production company specifically requesting your idea, your submission will most likely be returned to you unopened period, unless you have representation in this area. However, if you do plan to submit your idea, you should have an attorney draft a confidentiality agreement to protect your ideas legally upon submission.
