Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My company has made me vice president of our Corp in order to take me off workmans comp. I called my private medical provided by my company and they said I would be covered if I was to be injured on the job but there would money out of my pocket for services. This just sounds like workman comp avoidance to benifit them not me. Is this right? What would be the better coverage workmans comp or the other?
