Legal Question in Employment Law in California

drug accusations

I came into work one day only to be invited into my managers office. He claimed he had heard from employees that i have come to work under the ''influence''. I asked under the influence of what and he said he didn't know. He gave me the choice of either not working their anymore or immediately going to take a drug test.

Is this legal, especially sense this was supposedly started by rumors?

It depends. If you drive buses for a living, it is probably legal. If you do clerical work, probably not.
