emailed a resume from work email account

Hi,

I sent three resumes from my work email account and my employer President of the Company and his wife ( who is a contract woker) read all my emails. This is a subsidiary of a public very large Corporation. My work otherwise has been very solid and respected throughout the Corporation. They are now debating on whether I should re-sign claimimg they cannot trust me. I am a senior exec in the Company and I have been there for 7 years.

The company can fire you for cause on several grounds. Even if they don't, your relationship there is damaged. If you think there is any chance you are going to be terminated or asked to resign, I suggest you immediately obtain experienced counsel to negotiate a severance agreement and settlement that allows you time and ability to look for work before it becomes public that you are out of work. It is critical for an executive level employee to not appear to fired. Contact me to discuss your options; I've been doing these kinds of deals for over twenty years.

I always tell my clients not to use work e-mail for personal matters -- including jokes.

You might tell the boss you're sorry about the indiscretion, that friends had told you about the jobs and you couldn't disappoint them by not applying, and that you're very happy where you are and with the company. And don't use your office e-mail for personal matters ever again.
