Can looking for employment after end of employment contract, while under contrac

Can one who is under an employment contract that terminates in one year be terminated for cause by reason of one negotiating now for employment after termination of the contract? It is understood that confidential information can never be shared, nor can employees cannot be solicited or business be solicited for until after the employment contract ends.
