Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Am I entitled to anything except a boot?

I worked for a disabled man the past 4 yrs in exchange for rent which was only 300.00 a month . My work far exceeded that but never got a salary or any wages. Now he wants to give me a 72 hr notice . I have no savings or any kind of income to move. This got moved to a 60 day but it still gives me little time. and now my only means of transportation is under attack by him. Why does he want to cut off my legs before i run a race?? I'll never know. Am I entitled to any kind of severence or something?

Re: Am I entitled to anything except a boot?

There is no legal requirement for an employer to pay severance, unless it's been negotiated by the parties. You may, however, have the minimum wage claim if you are an employee. You should consult with an employee rights attorney in your area, or in the alternative, contact the local Division of Labor Standards Enforcement office. Also, if you are considered an employee, you might be entitled to unemployment, and your employer may be required to contribute funds to a reserve account to compensate you. You should contact the California employment development Department to determine your rights to unemployment.
