Legal Question in Employment Law in California

exempt being forced to work extra hours

I am an exempt (salaried) employee and now my boss is telling me that if I don't reach certain objectives I will be forced to work on Saturdays. This is in addition to 11 hour required work days during the week.

Can I be forced to work on weekends as punishment for not hitting a quota?

Thank you.

There is no limit to how many hours you can be required to work to get the job done. However, it is not uncommon for employers to misclassify their employees as exempt. You may want to have an attorney review your job duties to determine is you truly are exempt from overtime.

Yup. That's what you get paid the big bucks for, as long as you are legitimately classed as salaried expempt. If not, then you are owed a LOT of overtime. If you think that is the case, feel free to contact me.
