Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My friend was fired after she informed her employer that she issued a restrainin

My friend was abused by her ex-boyfriend. She confided this to a co-worker and showed the co-worker her bruises.

A few days later she told her co-workers/boss that she had filed a restraining order against this person.

She was immediately terminated. They cited some past minor grievances as their reason and said she would thank them later.

She however, had just received a raise from the same employer a few weeks prior.

This raise was given after the period of time when the issues they had mentioned with her had occurred.

Is this not illegal?

Thank you for your help.
