Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My husband was laid off May of 2009. We were just informed that his employeer at the time is willing to "settle" out of court. He was instructed by a union rep to come up with a figure to request. Other than the hourly rate he would have received, what else can we figure?? He still has not found a job and has exhausted his unemployment. This was a federal company which is trying to keep away from the media.

It is not fair or appropriate to ask an attorney who knows absolutely nothing about your case, what damages to ask for by way of settlement. Such negotiations are very intricate, strategic and personal and should only be evaluated by someone with intimate knowledge of the facts and issues of the case.
