Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Layoff and severance pay

After 4 years of service, I have been layed off by my employer without notice. I did receive pay for worked hours since last pay period and accrued vacation time. However, I have been told I am also entitled to 2 weeks severance pay since I did not get any notice. Basically, I was called into the CEO's office and handed a layoff letter, a check, a handshake and good luck. Am I entitled to the 2 weeks of severance pay?

Re: Layoff and severance pay

Unless the company had a policy regarding severance pay, or it's a large company that had to file appropriate notifications before mass layoffs, as an at-will employee, there is no severance pay to be provided. Sorry!
