Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Is it Legal to Demote me and Take away hourly wages w/o any warning or write up?

My sister works for a large Photography studio in California as a Manager and was demoted without warning. She kept here title and was relocated back to her old studio, but her paycheck was effect by $1.00/hrly. Is this legal? There was never any downsizing or any finanical problems with the company. (mind you, this is a third party speaking)

unless you have a written contract it is legal.
