Legal Question in Employment Law in California

It is legal for my employer to prevent me for working for a competitor or even anyone that may represent a possible conflict of interest. Say for example working for a non competitor but doing off work hours can represent a conflict because it can result in fatique or even me reducing hours at my current job and thus would prevent me from giving my best effort. Is this legal in California and it is legal for them to recommend I don't seek employment or stop any current employment that represents this conflict?

No they can't "stop" you, but, not only are there no laws against poor management, 'unfair treatment', or rude, obnoxious or harassing behavior by management or other employees, but in general, unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or terminated any time for any reason, with or without cause, explanation or notice.

What Mr. Nelson is trying to say is that an employer can prohibit other employment by ANY other employer, not just competitors. They can't exactly stop you, but they can fire you if you work for, or refuse to quit working for, any other employer.
