Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Minimum hours worked

I thought there was a law reguarding the minimum no. of hours to be paid when an employee was scheduled to work. I thought it was 4 hours, but I have only been paid for the actual hours worked. I am part time.

Re: Minimum hours worked

Generally in California hourly employees must be paid for at least two hours of work for a shift.

What you might be thinking of is that if you are scheduled to work an 8-hour shift, show up to work but then are sent home, you would get 4 hours of pay.

The rule is that an employee must be allowed to work and get paid for at least 1/2 of their regularly-scheduled shift. If they are not, then they are entitled to the difference, up to a maximum of four hours total.

Hopefully that clarifies things for you.
