Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Are offer letters legally binding

I received a job offer in writing through a recruiter

and accepted the job offer the same day in writing. I had given notice to my previous employer 3 days prior to receiving the written offer based on the fact that both my recruiter and new emplorer had told me an offer would be made. During this time I was also offered a job by another company who is a large customer of my new employer. I declined his offer in writing the same day I recd. and accepted the offer

I was asked to fly to to Indiana to meet with the new owners of the company. Upon my arrival I was told they had received a very upsetting phone call that day from their large customer stating that I had accepted a jpb with him. I showed them my written correspondence to their customer declining employment. They went on to say that this is a large customer who is threatening them and they cannot afford to lose his business and thus would have to recend their offer of employment to me.

I now am without a job or insurance for my family. I am wondering what if any legal course of action I have against the company that I had received an offer letter from.

Re: Are offer letters legally binding

You have a good case for breach of contract. An offer is binding if it is accepted before being withdrawn. You may also have a good case against the big customer for interferring with you contractual relationship with the other company.
