overtime/holidays

my husbands,co. will give the holiday off without being paid, and he wants to use his 8hrs sick pay for the holiday off.Then turns around and works 12hrs the next day in that same pay period: By law is the company supposed to pay over time?

12 hours in one day will result in overtime pay. The other issues don't even come unto play. I think you meant does the 8 hours sick pay count toward overtime? No, it doesn't. Only hours actually worked do.
